Entry 5¾: Out of order, sort of unaligned; Powered down for redesign.

If you're missing the song reference, here you go.

Honestly, I'll be the first to admit that my brain is not up to code... there's just something about the way that I think, or perhaps even something aberrant to the very design of the organ I use to think, and it manages to convolute something as simple as sleep. You can't imagine how frustrating it is to have no control over your mind when it comes to something so basic. I know there are worse problems, but this just really gets to me.
Enclosed is a picture of the sweet, sweet drugs I currently have on hand for dealing with insomniAttacks.

Not pictured is an herbal tea that doesn't work.

Some of these seem to work alright, but I hate to be dependent on anything... I think I'm going to learn to meditate so I can just shut my brain off when I need to. It would be good for me to get a little control back.

A friend of mine recently made this, and I think you guys should check it out:

As a fan of both Bleach and Metric... and also as someone who can't get over how rad this song is, I gotta say I think it's fantastic. Obvious biases aside, I'm still impressed.

So I'm ending my routine of early morning webcomics/youtube videos in favor of actually reading the news. I feel I'm pretty uninformed, since as it stands, my greatest source of news is Erin's wall posts. :P
Don't get me wrong, I'm subscribed to several channels on Youtube with a political slant to them, so I have a vague idea of what's going on in the world, and I know a lot of relevant jokes, but that's simply no substitute for actual awareness.

Well, now that I've downplayed quasi-political youtubers so much, here's a video by Cody Weber about what John McCain thinks of immigrants and gay people in the military.

This is the last in a series of videos on the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy. I wouldn't say these rants are particularly eye opening or anything, and the whole thing is essentially for the lulz, but the guy can be clever and I find myself entertained. I'll link the other videos here and here.

Alright, I'm gonna call it a night. Here's a funny comic. I don't know why I keep posting these, since I link like, 3 comics in the average post anyway.

Lazy, Patrick Swayze!

Entry 5: Let's break out of this fake ass party

In case you haven't seen it yet...

Didn't make the unofficial Saturday deadline, and if you don't love Yeezy, this will seem like a severely uneventful post, but fuck man, I tried!
Damn, I am a man that can sure use a comma.

Entry 4: Prty!

Try not to pay too much attention to my last whiny baby post there... I ended up having a pretty rad night and staying up 'til 4 with friends and Vodka.

I'm in a pretty sweet mood... got up this morning and made a big kickass breakfast of beacon, eggs, and toast. I wish I had the time and energy to do that every day.
So earlier this week I went to my staff christmas party, which was a blast!
This is what I wore:

This picture makes me look small and jewish.

We went to Pizzeria Prima Strada and had traditional style Italian pizza straight out of the wood oven! Also free booze! I tried an italian beer, and later tried a drop shot of italian hard liquor (Grappa) in italian beer! It was what I imagine turpentine to taste like. You'll be surprised to learn that it wasn't all my idea... This girl I work with, Gina suggested it, and I was like "there's probably a reason it's never been done before, but yeah! I'm totally in!"
Good times.

Tonight is my sister's 27th Birthday party, and it's Gypsy themed. I don't think I have all the blouses I once did, but I'll pull something together. I'm pretty stoked! I have a lot to celebrate! The official drink is red wine, and I'm on the fence about either doing Edward Wine Hands, or just drinking something I'll actually appreciate, like some good ass winter ale.
I'm required to bring some middle eastern-esque food to the party. I'm making a lentil soup with curry and butternut squash!
I've got a lot of stuff to make in the next little while... gotta mail Christmas cards, but I don't know if I'll make that many, since I don't buy cards... we'll see what kind of free time I'm looking at once I've finished the last of my christmas shopping today...

In other news, I've had some Flaming Lips stuck in my head for a couple of days now.

07 - Are You a Hypnotist by siderola

I'm tempted to start a pop group called A Circular Saw. We'll write the catchiest tunes, and people will say "I've got A Circular Saw stuck in my head!"

Don't worry about it, you don't need to laugh... the main thing is that I know I'm funny.

So as promised, here's the quiz on last week's comic:

1. How many parts were there in this particular story arc? (The Haunted Toaster comic doesn't count)

2. Write a 400 word essay on this comics implications about the origins of life, the universe, and everything.

3. Where did the comic touch you, and how did that make you feel?

Answer in the comments section. You will be graded on spelling and grammar, as well as the accuracy of your statements. This is worth 67% of your grade for the semester.

Man, I can't wait to be a real teacher!

Here's a comic, and I'll see you later, Ralph Nader.

Entry 3.5: Two steps back.

So I restrained myself from going out and having a good time again tonight.

I think at some primordial level I'm fundamentally adverse to fun.

I'm fairly certain I'll elaborate further at a later date, but right now I'm going to bed.

Maybe I should take up golf or something...

Ps. For those of you unfamiliar with Amazing Super Powers, each comic has a bonus comic easter egg sorta deal, and you may have to look outside of the panel to find it. Also their alt tags are scarcely unfunny. It's the little things, folks.

Entry 3: Mistakes

I've been thinking a lot lately about improving myself... it's not any one thing, but a lot of things I feel could be better. Let's be honest, I pull my share of fuckups, but all things considered, I very seldom regret much of it. I find myself regretting far more the things I don't do... the many times I restrain myself, whether it be from going out and having a good time, or just saying something to somebody.
This has been coming up more lately because I've been seeing some of my friends making the same mistakes I've made before... and I can't help but think how easy it would've been to just throw a bit of advice out there and possibly save everybody some heartache.
I'm being vague, and that's intentional... it's nothing I want to get into here, and seriously, it's not even any of my business. Suffice it to say, some of us could merit from a bit more honesty. No matter what people may lead you to believe, lying doesn't make things easier. Just more retarded.

So I did some Christmas shopping today and accidentally bought shit for myself because things were cheap and good. 'sokay though, I found $10 on the ground today, so I've earned it by mere happenstance.
I got a cheap copy of Alien Apocalypse that I'm pretty stoked about. Go Bruce Campbell! Between me and David, we're well stocked for a bad movie marathon. For those interested, let me know, and we'll get that shit happening.

So I've been getting back into the various works of David Bazan lately... I was listening to Pedro The Lion non-stop a couple of years ago, and I dragged out my old cds and gave Pedro The Lion's Achilles Heel another listen... I still love it!

I Do by David Bazan

Alright, so I really wanted to get on here to tell everyone about a new project featuring the talent of Alan Tudyk, of Firefly and Dollhouse fame. Since it seems he can't catch a break for longer than a season on regular television, he's making a bold move. Enjoy...

Also here's another funny comic... it's a multi-parter, and I sincerely hope you read all of it... there will be a quiz at the start of my next entry.

Later, A. C. Slater!

Entry 2: What to Play

A friend of mine (hi Stu!) recently mentioned that he needed something new to play on PC. After a bit of thought, I compiled this list of semi-recent indie games I thoroughly endorse. Here they are in no particular order:

Doukutsu Monogatari (Cave Story)
Snorched from indiefaqs.comPilfered from cavestory.org

Okay, so I said no particular order, but there's totally a reason this game comes first. Cave Story is amazing beyond measure! In fact, it's so good there's a WiiWare port of it. I won't do a full scale review, but I will say it's a badass metroidvania game with a cool story, RPG elements, tons of replay value, and music that will not disappoint. When you first start up the game, you will probably find the physics a little floaty and weird, but once you get used to it, the payoff is so worth it. If on your run through, you pick up the machine gun, I guarantee you will have fun with this game.

Here's the Cave Story Tribute Site, or you can go ahead and skip right to the download page.

Noitu Love (and the army of grinning darns)
pickpocketed from hardcoregaming101.netsame.

This one is a pretty zany title, and it's another super fun one. I haven't gotten very far in it, but not for lack of trying. This game is somewhat challenging, but the truth of the matter is that I'm not that good at games. Whatever the case, this game has some unique and epic boss battles, and I highly suggest you try it for yourself.

Additionally, if you do find yourself really enjoying this, I suggest you take a look at Noitu Love 2. This one actually costs money, so I haven't tried it, but I do plan to. Expect more fucking nuts boss fights and some of the best side scroller action mechanics on the PC. Check this shit out:

Yeah.

So here's the Creator's Website, and here are the pages for Noitu Love and Noitu Love 2: Devolution

Legend of Princess
Extorted from indiegames.com
While we're talking about games by Konjak, I can't ignore this one. It's Zelda, arcade side scroller style! 'nuf said! Stop readin' my shit and play this game!

Yes, that is spelled capital i, j, i. So when I said earlier that Cave Story deserved to be first on the list, well it was a tough call between these two, and it's really for a lot of the same reasons. This game has a dark, rather involved story, and some really kickass dialogue. RPG elements are present, and it has a leveling mechanic that really gives you great control over your stat progression. Many of the choices you make in this game will have subtle effects on the story, making this an exceedingly replayable game. You'll go crazy trying to unlock every single thing, and I fucking dare you to try a pacifist run. My only gripe with this game is the artwork in the cutscenes. I feel it could've looked a lot better, but honestly, it's really hard to complain about anything when you're listening to this.
Btw, those are all worth listening to all the way through.

Oh, also this:

This is an incredible game and I beg you to go here and get it!

Well, that's enough of that... I'll probably do another list of games at a later date, but I know not everyone  wants to know what I'm playing right now, so I'll give it a rest for a while.

In other news, work has been great! It's been hella slow because of the snow, so I've actually been talking a lot more at work and getting to know my co-workers. My bosses still think I'm a fucking hermit, but that just goes to show how heedless they are of me.

Don't care, gonna go over here and fish for the attention of someone worth my time.

Alright, enough of that, I'm tired! This takes too long...

oh, almost forgot... funnycomiccominATCHAAA!

Entry 1: An Introduction

Hello, and welcome to my Weblogue.
Now I know what you're thinking... "But Dan, why do you have a blog now? Do you even have anything worth saying? Also, what's with the name? Are you retarded?"
Well, I'm going to ignore most of your questions (especially that retard comment, you big meanie) and focus on the name thing.
"This Fucking Spaceship!" was a line from a letter  I wrote and never gave to my then girlfriend. We were in an extremely unstable relationship, and she was going away to visit her ex, which history had already proven to be a baaaad idea. She wanted me to write her something so she would be reminded of me and what we were to each other. I tried, but I was pretty fed up with the whole thing by this point, so it turned into a rant about human nature and where it was taking this planet. I had been reading Helter Skelter at the time, along with many quotations by Charles Manson that I'd found on the internet, and one such quotation compared the world to a spaceship. I referenced this somewhere in my letter. After re-reading my work, I realized this clearly wasn't the love letter I'd intended to write, and I never gave it to her. It was pretty clear to me at this point that I had to end it.
A couple years later, me and my friend Seth started a band called Japanese Economy Cars with minimal success. We played two shows, wrote a lot of songs, and most importantly, had some good ass times.
At some point I found that old letter in one of my school binders, and we decided to make a song of it... well, less a song, more a noise-splosion. I screamed the words of my letter into a microphone while Seth soloed the shit out of the drums. We recorded it, and when playing it back, we both heard the drums die down just as I screamed "THIS FUCKING SPACESHIP!" at the top of my lungs. We laughed our asses off, and I'll never forget how stupid it sounded out loud.

So that is the origin of the title, but forget that for a minute.

Marooned in space... this has kind of become a metaphor for my life and the vast distance between what's in my mind, and the real world, and the great difficulty I have getting messages from my mind to the real world. I'm a pretty quiet person, and I spend a lot more time inside my head than I do in reality. Frequently I can't relate to the people around me, and it takes a whole lot for me to get to know most people. I'm awkward as fuck, but I've gotten very used to it. This fucking spaceship is my head, and these entries will primarily chronicle the occurrences therein. I'll try not to make it too boring or emo, but I make no promises. If you don't want to follow, don't follow... but I warn you now: You'll be missing out on links to funny comics that I'll be posting in every entry, starting NOW!
